Our aim is to build capacity in the regulatory environment so as to enhance the effectiveness of the regulatory systems for the benefit of both the economy, public and consumer welfare. Lack of coordination and cooperation by regulators often result in duplication of resources and functions as well as contradictions that can be avoided.

SARF aims to build capacity through joint projects, information sharing and educational programs that would be conducted from time to time. Since its inception in 2002, the Forum has conducted two workshops.
  1. Workshop on Corporate Governance as it relates to regulatory bodies
This workshop was held on 15 November 2002 at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria. The well-known and knowledgeable Dr Michael Katz of Edward Nathan & Friedland was invited to address SARF members on the principles of Corporate Governance, its importance to regulatory authorities and how they can ensure compliance with such principles.

  2. Workshop on Utility Regulation
This workshop was organized by the Secretariat through the OECD and all relevant utility regulators were invited to participate in order to share information, particularly from the developing country’s perspective. The workshop included presentations and discussions on electricity, telecommunications, etc.
